The Assault on Lady Parts

I have to be delicate. It's unladylike. A woman just doesn't utter the word in mixed company. But Rep. Lisa Brown did.

Oh No! She said it! VAGINA! And Rep. Lisa Brown was banned from speaking on the floor of the Michigan legislature indefinitely.

Rep. Mike Callton (R) encapsulates the horribly indelicate experience perfectly, "What she said was offensive. It was so offensive, I don't even want to say it in front of women. I would not say that in mixed company." Wow. Mike can talk all day long about how important it is to pass an anti-abortion law that doesn't contain any exceptions for women's health, but the women cannot speak in adult language about the body and the lady parts this law directly regulates.

Exactly what language should Lisa Brown have used? Would hoo-hoo have been better, more delicate? Coochie maybe? How about twat? Rush Limbaugh is especially fond of cunt. Would that have been more to Mike's liking?

Okay, so can we freaking move out of the 1970's and come into the 21st century?

This country has taken so many steps backward, it's scary. Women should be in the streets protesting, but instead a significant portion of us are oblivious. I saw a poll last week that shows only 3 in 10 women believe Republicans have waged a war on women. Seriously.

We're not just talking about abortion and a woman's right to choose. Since when has contraception been back on the table for discussion? Or access to basic reproductive healthcare?

In the last year, nearly 40 years after Roe v. Wade ~ the Supreme Court decision that ruled that a woman's right to privacy extended to her decision to have an abortion ~ Republicans have introduced bill after bill to limit those rights, in addition to attempting to limit women's access to basic healthcare and contraception with zero input from women. That takes balls...er, I mean testicles.

Read that passage again: "Right to privacy." Private means it's none of your damn business. And if I have to organize women myself, that right will never be rescinded.
