I'm Workin' On It

I must decide what I am going to do about maintaining my three blogs: this one, my food blog and my password protected blog. I need to combine all three blogs into one blog because, after all, all three are me.

To be more accurate, I feel split in primarily two directions  - Terri's Table and The Tao of Terri - since I haven't really posted on my protected blog (also named The Tao of Terri) since....well, let's just say almost a year. Sometimes it feels like I am two different people, when, in fact, both of them are a distinct part of me. I love to cook and I love to share my experiences, outcomes and recipes. I am also a person with a very serious side, insufferably opinionated, with an appreciation of most things sarcastic. The latter sometimes turns people off, so I try to hold it at bay while writing about food. It's not easy.

My readership for the food blog is pretty extensive. About 25,000 to 30,000 hits per month (you gotta love Pinterest!). I think if I were to incorporate more of my other personality, I'd likely lose readers. People coming for a recipe really don't want to read about my views on politics, love and life, but interjecting a recipe into my personal blog on occasion won't turn off too many of my paltry 650 or so readers. Or will it?  Doesn't everyone like to look at photos of yummy food?

Or do they?

I honestly don't know how to approach it. How do I combine both blogs into one "voice," so to speak. And what format will I use? Wordpress, Blogger, a new dot com? Sitting in front of my laptop, staring at the screen isn't helping. It just makes me painfully aware of my inaction. Thinking about how I'm going to go about finding my "voice" gives me a headache.

So instead of thinking about any of that, I'm going to go into the kitchen and pour some nice homemade teriyaki marinade over two chicken leg quarters and stick them into the refrigerator to marinate overnight. Then I'm going to use a sponge and a putty knife to clean up the marinade that boiled over and burned onto to my stove top.  Then I'm going to bake some cookies, espresso chocolate shortbread, I think. All the while I will intermittently watch the commentators and political pundits on MSNBC make fools of themselves quoting meaningless polls and extolling the virtues of the Romney robot campaign.

I'm feeling better already.

Decisions! So hard to make. I've been trying to decide on a new host/server/dot.com for over a year. I just am TOO LAZY to do the work. You didn't really ask for my opinion but I'll give it to you anyway...I think if you're wanting to take your food blogging to the next level {I think I've "heard" you say that previously} you should keep this blog separate from the food blog.

Thank you Gina. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do, but I'm close.

I have a password protected blog as well where I rant and rave about personal issues, etc. I find it helps me keep a much more level head in "real life". And of course I have my food blog, but sometimes it's very hard to not make food synonomous with other things going on in my life, so alot of times the two come together on the food blog as well. I saw keep the food blog about food and if personal stuff sometimes seeps in, so be it. And then keep the private one (or this one) for airing out stuff.
