Lines Drawn in the Sand

The mid-term elections are over. The campaigns for 2012 have already begun. No rest for the weary.

Sour-faced white men, drunk and giddy with their new-found power, stood in front of the cameras and the American people yesterday and proclaimed there will be no compromise. The lines have been drawn. The gauntlet has been thrown down. Let the battle begin.

There's a line of dialog in the movie "Tap" when Gregory Hines' character tells an old tap dancer (played by Sammy Davis, Jr.), in effect, he's too old to dance. The word "CHALLENGE!!" is a call to the other old tap dancers and what ensues is a dance challenge between young and old.

You can watch the sequence here:

There's little difference between the tap dancers and our politicians, except the tap dancers consider their challenge a friendly game. Our politicians take themselves way too seriously and their responsibility to us not seriously enough.
